I feel like September snuck up on me but I’ve decided to welcome it with open arms. It means cooler weather, changing leaves, pumpkin patches and sweaters. All the things that make my heart smile. It also means the start of a new academic year. I’m already knee deep in reading, researching and working on my first manuscripts. My kid is also growing and I’m trying to slow down time so I can breathe it all in. Which brings me to the topic of this post: goals.
I like goals because they bring purpose to my activities. They help me plan my time and make space for things that are important to me. Here are my goals for the month of September.
- Go to sleep by 10pm. It’s funny how as children we avoid sleep then spend the rest of our lives trying to find it. There was one a time in my life where I thought I could thrive on minimal sleep. Last year proved that was a very bad, no good idea. I think if I budget my time correctly I can make this happen.
- Go to the gym at least 1x a week. Visiting the gym 4x in a month can’t be that hard. I’m not saying I’m going to be in there for an hour, but I need to at least swipe my ID card! There are also some cool classes that I’d like to try out, perhaps that’ll be my motivation.
- Finish my manuscript. I’m collaborating with a faculty member and colleagues on an article that we plan to submit for publication. It’s super exciting because it’s a topic that’s dear to my heart. Our plan is to have it ready to go by the end of this month and it’s completely doable.
- Have 2 “Mommy & Me” outings. A friend commented that I’m always taking my son somewhere to do something awesome. I really think it’s about me wanting to do something cool and bringing him along, lol. This month I’d like to try asking him to come up with ideas for things for us to do together. He’s getting old enough where I think it would be great for him to share some ideas.
I’ll probably share my progress on Instagram if you want to follow along! What are your goals for this month?
